Ian Schwenke is the MEL Advisor at Nuru International, a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in the United States. Ian has a background in the development sector working in several small non-profits in both the agriculture and education sectors. Ian has been at Nuru International for 2 years leading MEL efforts across the Nuru Collective of organizations across sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to Nuru, Ian has worked in the education sector with Rising Academy Network in Sierra Leone and Liberia, and recieved a MA in Global Human Development from Georgetown University, with a geographic focus on African Regional Studies and thematically in program evaluation.
Ian got his start in the development sector as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Benin, West Africa, where he was an education volunteer. Working in a rural community 75 miles from a paved road with no running water or electricity, Ian gained an appreciation for the difficulties and challenges faces in remote communities. Ian hopes to continue working to build the capacity of individuals to lead their own development initiatives, passing on the tools and knowledge necessary for local NGOs and leaders to address problems and develop solutions within their own communities.
