In this presentation I will reflect on how to attend to inclusive rigour while using causal analysis within outcome harvesting, drawing on two cases of adapting outcome harvesting to (i) center participant lived experience as the basis for collecting outcome stories, and (ii) explore causal pathways to develop credible narratives of contribution. Both experiences are large multi-partner participatory interventions, and outcome harvesting is one method used within a complexity-aware evaluation design. Outcome harvesting was adapted in each case to meet the contextual realities of the programmes, one evaluating a participatory peacebuilding intervention and the other evaluating a systemic child labour programme. As well as highlighting the unique learning from each case, I will draw lessons across them around what approaches to rigour can enable causal analysis that supports the participatory intent of outcome harvesting.
