Failure sucks! But, these uncomfortable and scary moments are inevitable. S*** happens. What if you could use these awkward moments to improve your evaluation practice? Learning from memorable stories and leaning into the wisdom of an unreliable narrator, this talk will demonstrate one way to creatively elicit wisdom from mistakes. As a recovering perfectionist, Jennica shares her initial fear of failure and the freedom that comes from acknowledging failure as a normal part of evaluation practice. She will demonstrate how to use a facilitated narrative approach to support reflexive practice individually and as a team. Using her own epic fails as illustrative examples, Jennica will describe how she used these uncomfortable learning moments to “fail forward” towards practical next steps and professional growth. She will also share some practical tips and strategies for using this tool in real-world evaluation settings. Audience members will gain a simple and effective tool to promote reflexive practice in their work.
