Mohammed Ajiwadeen, Senior Research Officer, Parliament of Sri Lanka has 20 years of experience and expertise in legislative research and policy evaluation to facilitate the Legislators with reliable, accurate, and updated information in an independent and trusted manner. He has been actively involved with VOPEs to ensure National Evaluation Capacity in Sri Lanka, as well the evidence-informed law-making in the Parliament of Sri Lanka and the Parliament of Asia Pacific Region.
Mr. Ajiwadeen, who specializes in Geography, obtained BA (Hons) and M.Phil. degrees, from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Participation in IPDET 2018 with the sponsorship of SDGAP-USAID, encouraged him to continue his higher studies in the field of Evolution and obtain a PGD in M&E (2021). As the Senior Researcher of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Evaluation (2018-19), he was involved in drafting the National Evaluation Policy, National Evaluation Bill, and launching of the ‘Evidence Informed Governance for Results (EIGR)’ program in the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
As a member of the editorial board of the Parliamentary Research Journal (2011 – 2022), he has published a number of research papers on parliamentary affairs. The research ‘Institutionalizing Evaluation in Parliament of Sri Lanka’, presented in an expert seminar, organized by the University of Hull and Westminster Foundation for Democracy in London (2019) was a fresh attempt in the Parliamentary history in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Ajiwadeen, Awarded with ‘NextGenGov Champion’ of the “NextGenGov Fellowship Programme by UNDP is a pioneer in adopting innovative practices in informed lawmaking in Sri Lanka. He is a member of VOPEs, namely, The Asia Pacific Parliamentarians’ Forum for Evaluation (APPFE) and the Sri Lanka Evaluation Association (SLEVA), to ensure evaluation capacity in Sri Lanka and the countries in the Asia Pacific Region.
