Evaluation and Research Specialist

Scott Chazdon in an Evalution and Research Specialist with the Department of Community Development at University of Minnesota Extension. He joined Extension in 2007 to develop new, and strengthen existing, performance management and evaluation efforts for the Community Development Department's programs and initiatives. Scott brings experience in evaluation project management, grant writing, research, public policy analysis, and database management, as well as community development and organizing. He has become a national leader in the use of Ripple Effect Mapping as an evaluation tool for exploring the impacts of community development programming, as well as in the development of community readiness assessment for long-term, issue-based work in communities.
Before joining Extension, Scott spent 10 years with the Minnesota Department of Human Services where he designed, conducted and reported on the evaluation of programs, including the state's welfare reform programs. He has demonstrated experience in qualitative and quantitative methodology and analysis, participatory evaluation strategies, and conducting evaluation and research in diverse settings — from the squatter settlements of Arequipa, Peru to the offices of community reinvestment officials at local banks. He can read and converse fluently in Spanish.
Chazdon's educational background includes a PhD in sociology from University of Denver (1996), a MA in sociocultural anthropology from the University of Florida (1987) and a BA in urban studies from Macalester College (1983).
