Carrie Draper, MSW, is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior at the University of South Carolina's Arnold School of Public Health. For 12 years there, she has led research, evaluation, and implementation projects with a focus on improving food security and strengthening nutrition assistance programs. She has served as the founding Principal Investigator of a SNAP-Ed Implementing Agency since 2015; the agency conducts state-wide evaluation for all SNAP-Ed agencies, funds and provides ongoing technical assistance to the state and local food policy councils, provides support to public libraries in implementing healthy eating access strategies, and develops and implements a social marketing campaign to promote healthy eating and physical activity behaviors. Her more recent work includes conducting a state-wide food is medicine landscape assessment and a shared evaluation of produce prescription programs across South Carolina, as well as serving as the lead evaluator and co-project director of a federally funded GusNIP hospital-based produce prescription project. She also teaches a qualitative research course in the Master of Public Health program as an adjunct instructor. Her educational background is in human development from Virginia Tech and social work from the University of South Carolina. She strives to advance equity in everything she has the privilege to be involved in.
