Coretta J Pruitt a graduate of Purdue with a Degree in Computer Technology worked as a Programmer at Ernst & Young LLP and Hewitt Associates LLC before retiring to raise her family of six. Referred as CJ is an involved member at the local school and within her community. CJ has a heart for people and adopted this kind and giving spirit by witnessing her mother, the late Beverly Ann (Goodman) Richardson; who was a pillar of the Auburn-Gresham/Englewood Communities being the FIRST School Community Representative (SCR) at Richard J. Oglesby Elementary in which CJ attended thru 6th Grade and then graduated from Oliver S. Westcott Elementary. Since having a family of her own, CJ has been an involved parent with Chicago Public Schools for over 23 years having served on its Parent Board of Governors during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. She also was instrumental with the planning and building of the Englewood STEM High School as a member of its Steering Committee. CJ is also a Block Ambassador having been trained as such through NeighborWorks(R) America whose mission is to create opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities. Additionally, CJ loves to inspire others, to share information and to provide resources to assist families financially; particularly, those that have family members living with disabilities. Over the years CJ has received many awards and recognition; although, one of the most humbling awards received was The Sister Thea Bowman Humanitarian Award, as Sister Thea pioneered the rights of blacks in the Catholic Church and refused to accept the injustices she witnessed within her community. CJ’s favorite self-quote is “L.I.F.E. (TM) is the biggest teacher of us all because you learn something new everyday if you open your mind to receive it”.
