Brian Dates, M.A., is an independent program evaluator who is also a lecturer in the Masters program in Public Administration and Policy at the University of Michigan - Dearborn, where he teaches Statistics, Program Evaluation, and Performance Appraisal.
Brian has been a program evaluator for more than 40 years, concentrating in the areas of mental health, substance use, homelessness, and integrated primary and behavioral healthcare. Additionally, he has worked in program management in non-profit organizations, and practiced as a clinician, specializing in working with patients with catastrophic and/or chronic illness.
Brian has been a member of the Michigan Association for Evaluation since its founding in 1995. He was a member of the organization’s Board of Directors for 16 years, retiring from the Board in 2015 after serving for four years as President. He also served as Chair of the Research Advisory Council of the Detroit-Wayne Mental Health Association. He has been a member of AEA since 1998.
Brian is interested in the interaction in communities among service organizations and their collaborations with informal systems of supports and services which have emerged spontaneously to meet community needs. Within these systems he is particularly interested in the assessment of the various contributions each individual and group have made to general community welfare.
