Tamara Jurberg is the Voice, Organizational Capacity, Advocacy and Leadership (VOCAL) Project Manager for CARE USA, based in New York. Currently, Jurberg works in partnership with Women-Led Organizations (WLOs) in West and Central Africa, Middle East and North Africa, Asia and Latin America. Jurberg has more than 10 years of experience working on violence, of which the last five has been specifically on gender-based violence in emergencies (GBViE). Before joining the Global Advocacy Team at CARE USA, Jurberg had experiences working at UN agencies, such as UNHCR and UN Women, and other NGOs, such as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and Center for Health Promotion (CEDAPS).
Jurberg is a also a Ph.D candidate researching violence against Venezuelan migrant and refugee women, and how socioeconomic integration can serve as a prevention and response mechanism. Jurberg also did her master research on local participation during international assistance in Brazilian favelas, and she has also published and coordinated several reports and guides on gender equality and GBV in emergencies, such as: the Regional Assessment on Gender-Based Violence in Latin America; The access of refugee women and children to social assistance programmes in Brazil; Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality in the humanitarian response in Brazil; Toolkit for gender equality in the humanitarian response, with initiatives on gender-based violence, economic empowerment and women’s leadership and participation; Gender-Based Violence and Casa da Mulher Brasileira; Sexual harassment at the job market; Leadership, Empowerment, Access and Protection (LEAP) Case Study.
