Jessica Tokunaga, M.P.H, is a Research Associate at Wilder Research. She plans, designs, and implements research and evaluation projects focused on a variety of topics, including public health. She is currently helping lead the BCBS Center for Prevention Health POWER Initiative evaluation and Food Justice Initiative, the Comunidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio (CLUES) Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) Initiative evaluation, and the Preschool Development Grant’s Indigenous evaluation. Jessica has also received training in community-centered evaluation approaches such as arts-based methods and Indigenous Evaluation. In addition to evaluation implementation, she provides training/workshops on innovative evaluation methods and approaches and partners with other Wilder staff in developing new ways of gathering and understanding data. Some of the methods Jessica has helped to develop include storybanking, journey mapping, and arts-based approaches to focus groups. Before working at Wilder Research, she was the evaluation manager at the Health Equity Institute of San Francisco State University. She led evaluation projects, in partnership with communities living in public housing in San Francisco, that focused on health equity, social justice, and addressing structural racism and harm experienced in these communities. Jessica holds a master’s degree in public health from San Francisco State University and a bachelor’s degree in international relations and a minor in women’s/gender studies from the University of California, Davis.
