In her current role at UAMS, Ms. Barker manages the Early Care and Education Program that helps early care and education centers implement best practices in nutrition, breastfeeding, and physical activity. She prides herself on building strong relationships with community partners. This focus led to UAMS receiving the “Partner of the Year” award from one of the organizations she has worked closely with for several years.
Chelsea also played a vital role in the Community Food Locker pilot project. This project utilized placing temperature-controlled food safe lockers outside of a local food pantry to allow food insecure neighbors to place online grocery orders - expanding food access outside of limited pantry operating hours. Deployment of this technology is a first of its kind in the state of Arkansas.
Chelsea aims to continue her work cultivating relationships with neighbors and community partners to build trust and gain valuable insight and knowledge to leverage innovative solutions to increase the health of Arkansans both locally and statewide.
