Marissa Spear, CPA-NM is a Program Evaluator at the Center for Community Engaged Evaluation at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Community Health and Research. She is a disabled evaluator and writer with a Bachelor of Arts in Health Equity Studies from Goucher College and a Graduate Certificate in Professional Achievement in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University. She has five years of program evaluation experience in informal learning environments and community health, with a focus on the charitable food system and communities of practice. She has expertise in conducting evaluations using qualitative methods and teaching others how to develop their qualitative skillset. Her work has appeared in Journal of Primary Care and Community Health, BMC Public Health, Journal of Extension, Preventing Chronic Disease, Nursing Clio, and All of Us. She is a vocal advocate for awareness of chronic pain and firmly believes that chronically ill and disabled individuals are the experts of their own bodies and should be the bearers of their own stories. Through her work, she hopes to reduce health disparities by decentralizing medical expertise and privileging the voices of those most neglected by the health care system.
