DARCY L. STROUSE, PhD, is the Director of Research and Learning at ChildFund International, where she leads the design and implementation of a global research program to support organizational thought leadership and learning on child protection and child development in vulnerable settings. Her primary research interests focus on youth mental and physical health promotion and the role of supportive family and peer relationships in child and youth development and protection. As a developmental psychologist and behavioral research scientist, she has more than 30 years of experience in applied health and human development including qualitative and quantitative data collection; participatory research methods; feasibility studies, environmental scans, and needs assessments; systematic review; and scientific report writing and dissemination. She is an expert in evaluation design and execution and has served as the lead scientific investigator for numerous applied health and human development research and evaluation projects at the local, national, and international level. This includes leading the evaluation of clinical research networks worldwide in support of a National Institute of Health (NIH) Roadmap initiative; directing synthesis or “what works” projects: for the World Health Organization (WHO) to determine the effectiveness of HIV intervention programs in developing countries and for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to investigate the effectiveness of behavioral, social, and policy HIV intervention and sexual risk reduction programs globally, including those targeted at youth; and for the CDC, leading an expert panel study and review of the literature and evidence on the linkage between caregiver supervision and childhood injuries.
