The Supreme Court decision ending affirmative action programs at colleges and universities will have long-term implications on the future of the American workforce, including the evaluation industry. Despite potential gains over the past three years in workforce diversity and inclusion, many worry that the long-term sustainability of these gains are at risk. In an industry that already draws on disciplines where the student body is not very diverse, and where there are already many roadblocks to participation – including unpaid internships, international travel, and requirements for graduate degrees – the Supreme Court decision only widens the divide.
This session will present the current state of diversity, equity, and inclusion in global development and the demographics of up-and-coming evaluators. Speakers representing different sides of the evaluation community: implementor, data storyteller, academia - will discuss the implications to the field of evaluation from their unique lenses and lay out opportunities and challenges to building a diverse pipeline of evaluators within the current legal framework. The session will end with a discussion of what actions the evaluation community can take and what different sectors can do to affect real and long-lasting change.
