Planning grants (often brief funding to support a future project) offer an opportunity for evaluators/researchers to support practitioners in identifying concerns, engaging community, and bridging the research-practice gap. In this project, gender-based violence preventionists began work within a public housing complex in a suburban/rural part of the Midwest. The purpose was to identify resident needs/desires and build infrastructure (e.g., identify strengths, better understand location, gather partners). Data included guided tours, resident meeting activities (e.g., discussion, interactive scale activities, asset mapping), meeting observations, a housing-wide survey that was created with input from and piloted by residents, and a network survey conducted with partners. In this presentation (created by the leading practitioners and their evaluators), we explore how multiple forms of data revealed top concerns and project infrastructure, across the social-ecological model, and the ways in which planning grant evaluation can inform both the future project and current planning.
