Amplifying Program Beneficiaries' Stories of Sustainability Through Select USAID Ex-Post Evaluations
Sustainability Stories from Uganda: Ex-post evaluation to examines the sustainability of outcomes from USAID's Sustainable, Comprehensive Responses for Vulnerable Children and their Families (SCORE) Project
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Specialist USAID/Uganda, United States
This presentation will feature powerful stories of sustainability of SCORE project outcomes. SCORE was a seven-year project funded by USAID/Uganda whose purpose was to decrease the vulnerability of critically- and moderately vulnerable children and their households in 35 districts in Uganda. The activity was implemented at the local level, through at least 66 civil society organizations. SCORE used a multisector and family-centered approach, offering a menu of services across different components to beneficiary households. SCORE developed family-specific plans to “graduate” households from activity support. The activity focused on capacity building, improving socioeconomic status, food security, and access to protection and legal services.
The presentation will focus on key findings from the SCORE ex-post evaluation highlighting stories of beneficiaries recounting the great achievements of SCORE in equipping them with the capacities to improve their wellbeing and reduce their vulnerabilities. The presentation will also discuss the factors behind SCORE successes at the closure of its interventions, including some of the elements of the project's graduation model. Factors that hindered the sustainability of program outcomes overtime that were collected through various qualitative methods from beneficiaries and key stakeholders across seven districts of Uganda, including stories of post project challenges to cope with diverse chocs and stressors will also be discussed. Finally, the presentation will emphasize the need to amplify local voices in our evaluation efforts as a way to promote locally led and locally sustained development efforts.
