Director, Evaluation Office United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), United States
The structure and management of evaluation in United Nations (UN) agencies differs significantly. Some agencies mostly commission independent evaluations conducted by outside evaluation organizations and consultants, while others conduct their own evaluations with some support by consultants. In all cases, UN evaluation units play a key role in how evaluation is seen by their organization: they carry responsibility to ensure evaluation is responsive to the agency's executive board, aligned with senior management priorities and concerns, and respectful of the organizational culture and its reputation. Experience in evaluation management and leadership from UNFPA, UN Women and UNICEF informs this presentation.
