Sr. Evaluation Advisor US Department of State, United States
Evaluators often feel pressure to create a singular coherent narrative about program results, either from our internal desire to narrativize the world or from external demands from decision makers. This presentation will discuss the dangers to evaluation integrity when creating an overly-coherent evaluation narrative, particularly when aggregating data from across multiple sources, multiple perspectives, or a portfolio of multiple programs. Examples will be drawn from foreign assistance evaluations and tips will be provided on how to avoid this problem.
