Chief Impact and Evaluation Officer The BHP Foundation Maplewood, New Jersey, United States
As values driven professional, we tell ourselves the story of the evil private sector yet what if they are not so evil? What if the entrance of corporates, investors and other market-based actors into the space of ‘impact’ fills gaps in conventional schools of thought and practice?
In this session, the speaker will point to two pain points in the practice of evaluating ‘impact’ that the private sector may be able to unlock: 1) risk and unintended consequences; and 2) evaluative thinking and strategy development. Drawing from her experience working with diverse social impact actors – from corporates, to philanthropies, to social ventures, to NGOs – she will share models, examples and approaches to inspire a different perspective of the big, bad private sector.
